IT. FREAKING. HAPPENED.⁣ This weekend I finishe IT. FREAKING. HAPPENED.⁣

This weekend I finished my first half marathon on Vietnam’s most difficult trail run! 🥳🥳🥳

And we all know it didn’t happen overnight. Just like showing up for your business goals, I’ve learnt how I can show up to run.⁣

If you’ve followed around for a while you might know that one year ago, I started running 🏃🏻‍♀️. And it’s been a helluva rollercoaster ride to keep this habit going.⁣
⁣
I still remember that first day I started. I remember barely being able to crawl over to a bench and wait for my friend to bring water because I was physically unable to walk, let alone finish my second mile.⁣ 🙈
⁣
But I continued to run. Yet when the first Vietnam lockdown happened in April, I lost all my motivation to be consistent. I lost all my running progress.⁣
⁣
In May when I saw my goal for 2020 was to run 21km I laughed at how naïve and ambitious I was. At this point, I still struggled (mentally) running more than a couple kms.⁣
⁣
The second lockdown hit right after I moved to a new town - Hoi An.⁣
⁣
I made a commitment to run every day. Each day of that 4-week period, running through the rice fields and smiling at familiar faces was my foundation.⁣
⁣
After lockdown, my friends encouraged me to sign up for a 21km half-marathon. I thought they were crazy. At the time, I had not even run further than 5km.⁣
⁣
💁🏽‍♀️ Turns out I’m crazy too. I signed up for the Vietnam Mountain Marathon without realizing it was a trail run in the mountains.⁣
⁣
Now I’m addicted - the views, the trails, the people you meet along the way. Something has felt missing all year, and I think I’ve found my missing piece.
You know you’ve come a long way when you are abl You know you’ve come a long way when you are able to breathe in, refocus, and really think about what matters to you.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
💾 SAVE THIS for when you feel like you’re losing control.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
2020 is the year of curveballs. This year I’ve gone through one typhoon, two lockdowns, one depressed month where I couldn't even leave home, and lost people I care about.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
If there’s one thing 2020 has taught me, it’s that life is unpredictable. Through it all, I've given myself the space to be human (even if it means not leaving the house for one month). And, I’ve given myself the space to refocus.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Whether you feel stressed with the upcoming holidays, with work, with finances, or whatever 2️⃣0️⃣2️⃣0️⃣ has thrown at you… I invite you to ask yourself the following questions:⁣⁣
⁣⁣
✨ What actually matters to me? ⁣⁣
✨ What is within my control?⁣⁣
✨ What routines and habits can I cultivate to get the feelings I want?⁣⁣
✨ What are my new goals?⁣⁣
✨ How do I give myself what I want?⁣⁣
⁣⁣
When you really sit down and ask yourself those questions, what comes up for you?⁣⁣
⁣⁣
. . .⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Last month, I asked myself what actually matters to me.⁣ I asked myself the 5 questions above.⁣
⁣⁣
When I did, I realized I’m far away from some things that matter to me - like family. And I realized that this distance is something I can control.
⁣⁣
So I bought a ticket home. While on one hand, a ticket home means giving up the freedom of living a covid-free life, quality time with my ʻohana matters to me, too.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
If you’re reading this, I hope you know you are resilient. You have the power of choice. You’ve got this - keep going.⁣

⁣
Following my lost-puppy-turns-into-anime-protagonist story arc, I immediately said yes to this challenge!⁣
⁣
TBH if I made this climb one year ago, I know I would’ve hated every moment of it. But this past year, I’ve changed my relationship with my body..⁣. and I can say I’ve enjoyed most of the challenge.
⁣
2020 has been a year of acceptance. It’s been a year of figuring out what activities give me life. It’s been a year of asking myself outside of work, WHO AM I?⁣
⁣
Who am I? And what makes me feel alive?⁣
⁣
AND - YO - as I’ve explored this question, it’s been difficult to post about it on social media. This self-discovery feels “off brand.”⁣
⁣
Yet doing the very things that make me feel alive is living a true life of being empowered.⁣
⁣
I run. I dance. I laugh. I play Among Us. I sing karaoke.⁣ 🎤

🏃🏻‍♀️ And I felt alive on the trail yesterday. These activities are my therapy. These activities are my own feminine empowerment (truth be told - I did need the men on the trail to pull me up rocks at time!).⁣
⁣
Who you are outside of work is a part of your brand. ⁣💁🏽‍♀️
⁣
Whatever you feel right now, I hope you give yourself the space to design your days. Just remember you define your own empowerment. You get to decide which activities give you life.⁣
⁣
Side note: I have a big personal update incoming! (Before you ask, I’m not pregnant) Any guesses to what it could be?👇🏽👇🏽👇🏽
Here's your weekly reminder to unapologetically sh Here's your weekly reminder to unapologetically show up as your fullest self.⁣
⁣
As women in 2020, we get to break past the ceilings built for us. We are stepping into our evolution, and we are NOT shrinking for places we've outgrown.⁣
⁣
⁣
In just the last decade, I went from shrinking or hiding my quirks as a way to feel safe, to loving those same quirks that make me feel human.⁣
⁣
My evolution is about learning to ignore the different expectations or beliefs that may prevent me from showing up as my fullest self. ⁣
⁣
(And yes, that means soothing the knots in my stomach as I challenge my own beliefs about myself too.)⁣

So stop shrinking, beautiful! Show the world that beautiful soul of yours.

💃🏻YOU NEED GOOD HABITS TO STEP INTO YOUR EVO 💃🏻YOU NEED GOOD HABITS TO STEP INTO YOUR EVOLUTION.⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
Sure, you can succeed with bad habits, but would it be fulfilling to do so?⁣⁣
⁣⁣
What habits can you integrate into your day to contribute to your healing + your evolution?⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
In his book The Power of Habit, Charles Duhligg writes there are 3 parts to tackle in each habit loop: the cue, the routine + the reward.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Let’s say your goal is to show up more online.⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
Replace a bad habit - like time spent scrolling on social media - with the habit you want to create of showing up more online.⁣⁣
⁣
⁣1️⃣ ISOLATE THE CUE⁣
⁣
What triggers your habit? What creates the craving?⁣
⁣
Look at the habit + think about where you are, the time of day, your mood, people around, or actions that precede your urge.⁣
⁣
My own cue to scroll on social media is in between tasks or when I wake up in the morning. ⁣
⁣
2️⃣ IDENTIFY THE ROUTINE⁣
⁣
The routine is the behavior you want to change!⁣
⁣
This is probably the easiest to identify. The routine for me to tackle is scrolling on social media without intent!⁣
⁣
3️⃣ EXPERIMENT WITH REWARDS⁣
⁣
The reward is the positive reinforcement your brain feels. Experimenting with rewards helps you understand what your brain is actually craving. ⁣
⁣
You might find scrolling social media rewards you with staying up-to-date, socializing with others, or just filling up empty time. How can you reward your brain using other habits? ⁣
⁣
Identify just ONE habit you want to replace. If you would like some accountability, DM me for my Slack community.
⁣
Next, I’m working on writing more often. What about you?
